In 1965, Art graduated from California State University with a Bachelors of Science in both Accounting and Finance. He continued at Cal State working towards a Masters Degree in Business for the next two years when he was accepted to the University of Southern California School of Law. Art earned his Juris Doctor from USC in 1970, and is admitted to practice before all State and Federal Courts in California, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Art began the practice of law in downtown Los Angeles at the Insurance Defense firm of Newlan, Tackabury & Johnston. In 1978, he became a partner in the law firm of Jones and Wilson and remained there until 1982 when he co-founded the law firm of Flahavan, Hudson, and Francis, a mid-sized Insurance Defense firm. In 1989, he became of-counsel and in 1992, he moved his law firm to Redondo Beach, California.

From the inception of his practicing law, Art has represented insurance companies throughout the United States in all facets of defense work. His area of specialization is life, health, and disability law including bad faith and ERISA. In over 25 years of practice, Art has tried to completion over one hundred cases with over twenty five of those cases being jury trials.

Art has served as Judge Pro Tem in the Los Angeles Superior Court and is currently serving as a Settlement Officer for that same court. He has lectured for the Continuing Education of the Bar, the Rutter Group, and the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association. He has been certified as an expert in the Los Angeles Superior Court in the areas of bad faith, coverage, and attorney malpractice.

Art is a member of the Los Angeles County, South Bay, and the American Bar Associations; Association of Southern California Defense Counsel; Los Angeles Business Trial Lawyers Association; Defense Research Institute, Inc., and the International Association of Insurance Counsel. He is the Author of "How to Handle a Legal Malpractice Lawsuit", Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine, June 1989.
